How Ignoring My Body Made Me Sicker- And Why Balance is the Answer.

Writer: Coach RiaCoach Ria

We’ve all done it. Pushed through exhaustion. Ignored the warning signs. Told ourselves, “I don’t have time to be sick.” I’ve coached countless women through this exact pattern—yet here I was, making the same mistake. I don't know how to rest, and because of this, I got sick. Then I got sicker. And I learned, once again, that balance isn’t just a concept—it’s a practice. Just like training, we need to practice to develop the skillset we need.

If you’ve been feeling burnt out, exhausted, or stuck in a never-ending cycle of go-go-go, this blog is for you. Because right now, you have two choices: keep pushing until your body forces you to stop, or learn how to create balance before you hit that wall.

Let’s talk about what balance really means, why ignoring your body is not a badge of honor, and how you can finally start listening—without guilt.

How I Got Sicker By Ignoring My Own Advice

It started with that familiar feeling—tired, but functional. I told myself, “I’ll just push through, drink more tea, take my vitamins, and keep moving.”

I had clients to train. Kids to homeschool. A business to run. Between doctor appointments, pharmacy pickups and a grocery run, stopping wasn’t an option, right?

Wrong.

The next day, my body shut down. The flu hit me hard—chills, aches, fever, exhaustion. But instead of resting, I still tried to power through. Answering messages. Thinking about my to-do list. Even debating whether I could just sweat it out with a workout.

And guess what? That made it worse. I needed to stop.

By refusing to listen, I extended my recovery time. My energy tanked. Even simple tasks felt overwhelming. I was irritable, foggy, and completely drained.

My body was screaming for rest, and I had no choice but to finally listen.

Sound familiar? Have you ever ignored the warning signs, only to pay for it later? Drop a “ME” in the comments—I know I’m not the only one!

What Balance Actually Means (And What It’s Not)

Balance is one of those words people throw around like it’s this perfect, peaceful state—where everything in life runs smoothly, and we feel calm 24/7.

Let me be real with you—that’s a lie.

Balance is not about perfection. It’s not about managing every single thing in equal amounts. It’s about adjustment—knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to restore.

Some days, balance looks like:

✔️ Waking up at 4 AM, training, homeschooling, and feeling unstoppable.

✔️ Other days, it’s recognizing that your body needs a break—and giving yourself permission to rest.

It’s not about doing everything all the time. It’s about knowing what actually needs your energy today.

And the best part? When you create balance, you actually get stronger. Your workouts improve, your stress levels drop, and your nervous system resets. But if you don’t—your body will eventually force you to stop.

Why This is My Mission

This entire experience reminded me why I do what I do.

I don’t just train people to lift weights or move their bodies—I teach them how to transmute stress, build resilience, and find strength without burnout.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that if we’re not hustling, we’re failing. That slowing down means we’re weak. That we have to be everything to everyone before we take care of ourselves.

But I’m here to tell you—that’s not balance. That’s self-destruction.

And I want to help you break free from that cycle.

Last Thoughts: Are You Finally Ready to Listen to Your Body?

I want you to take a deep breath.

Ask yourself—What do I need today?

Not what you should do. Not what others expect. What you need.

Drop it in the comments—what’s one way you’re taking care of yourself this week? And if you’re still figuring it out, let’s talk.

Balance isn’t something that magically happens—it’s something we practice. And I want to help you find yours.
